At OnWatch TV, we believe that education is a powerful tool for community transformation. That’s why OnWatch TV, alongside our partners at SCORE, proudly attended the 4th Annual Black Education Congress, hosted by the BLU Educational Foundation at San Bernardino Valley College.
This important gathering brought together educators, students, parents, and community leaders with a shared purpose: to assess and advance the educational experiences and outcomes of Black students across the region.
A Community of Institutions Working Toward Change
Key institutions participating in the event included:
- Colton Unified School District
- Fontana Unified School District
- Rialto Unified School District
- UC Riverside
- San Bernardino Valley College (Host Institution)
Each organization shared updates on their efforts, successes, and challenges as they work toward building more equitable and supportive environments for Black students.
Breakout Sessions Focused on Action
Throughout the day, attendees participated in powerful breakout sessions covering critical topics:
- Academic Success
- Black History Integration
- College and Career Success
- Effective Teacher Practices
- College Graduation Rates
These sessions weren’t just discussions—they were work sessions. Participants developed concrete goals and strategies to drive progress in each area, helping ensure that momentum from the event would carry into meaningful action afterward.
Engaging Conversations and Resource Sharing
Insightful Q&A sessions allowed students, parents, and educators to ask tough questions, share ideas, and find connections across institutions. The event also provided valuable resources to empower families and support students on their educational journeys.
Ending the Day with Community and Connection
The Congress concluded with a delicious lunch catered by Island Breeze of Colton, California. As groups shared their final goals and action plans, the room buzzed with energy, hope, and a renewed commitment to doing the real work necessary for change.
At OnWatch TV and SCORE, we know that highlighting educational equity efforts isn’t just important—it’s essential.
We are committed to amplifying initiatives like the Black Education Congress, showcasing the work being done, and keeping the conversation moving forward.
Stay tuned for more updates on how we are using media to drive purpose, uplift community voices, and build pathways to success.
